The latin origin of the name, Fontis, means fountain. Fontet's port, carved out of the left canal's bank is in a pleasant surrounding.
At the mooring station there is a lake with a beach, a playground for the children, a picnic area, an art and crafts museum with a replica of the Cathédrale de Reims made with 350,000 matchsticks (cf. Guinness book of Records)
Fontet is a great dynamic model for all other little towns on the Canal des deux Mers.
