A few history
Between the Mediterranean and the Cevennes foothills, the major city on the river Orb has existed for over 5000 years.
Birthplace of Pierre-Paul Riquet, the designer of the Canal du Midi, it was from channel 's creation, that a focal point for transportation waterway and for particular wine. Indeed, in 1700, the culture of the vine extends significantly. Until then, it was planted on a limited basis, with priority given to cereals.
With the channel and the possibility of expanded trade with the grain-producing regions of lauragais this restriction fell and soon the wine was implanted throughout the region. PAUL RIQUET AISLE: Adapted in 1827, the layout of walls and ditches of the ancient city, statue of Paul Riquet by David d'Angers.
MUNICIPAL THEATRE (Historical Monument): Built in 1844, the façade antique decors David d'Angers, room wooden Italian character, one of the few theater "bonbonnière" in France.
TOWN HALL: (Historical Monument): Built in the XVIII th on the old Roman forum where stood the Mayo Communa (Architect plans Rollin).
PEPEZUC : Statue imperial of character Roman, legend of hero at Beziers against the invader.
CATHEDRAL SAINT NAZAIRE (Historical Monument): The whole of this imposing monument stands, overlooking the city of his stature formidable. The Episcopal Palace is now the courthouse.
SAINTE MADELEINE CHURCH (Historical Monument): Very beautiful romanesque church, parish of consuls who in 1095, witnessed historical dramas as the sack of Béziers by the Crusaders or the "assassination of Count Trencavel.
HALLS (Historical Monument): built in 1890 on the model of halls Baltard
CHURCH OF SAINT JACQUES: Built in the late 1st century, beautiful Romanesque church Mediterranean. Its uniqueness is its Visigothic inspiration's capitals.
PLATEAU OF POETS (Historical Monument): The brothers Bülher has made ??this place in 1861 one of the finest landscaped parks in the Languedoc, today agréementé by the works of sculptors such as Injalbert, Villeneuve, Magrou, ....
THE FOUNTAIN OF TITAN monumental fountain in the heart of the garden of Poets.
ANTIQUE AMPHITHEATRE: Roman Place, recently renovated space for shows and events.
